Let’s “MUDIK” friends
Translations available in: English (original) | French | Spanish | Italian | German | Portuguese | Swedish | Russian | Dutch | Arabic

Let’s “MUDIK” friends

‘MUDIK” or back to your origin city is famous thing when EID coming. For all people that living in central city like Jakarta, Surabaya, Semarang or etc, they already prepared MUDIK one week before EID. There are a lot of ways to go home with family. For rich people, they usually used their own car or took the airplane. But for secondary class, they usually use motorcycle….yah sounds dangerous right. But let me write a freaky day with motorcycle. MUDIK with motorcycle have advantages like cheaper than use bus, train; faster because motorcycle smaller than bus and unforgettable moment because you can see all many bickers also in the way you go home.

Unfortunately, we have risk of accident bigger also for taking motorcycle for our MUDIK. Yearly, in Indonesia, user of motorcycle always increases especially one week before EID.

I have tried this one way last year when I visited my grandmother’s home. I drove motorcycle for 6 hours with my sister and it was amazing moment. The satisfied using motorcycle is when we can faster than bus, faster than the normal time. Like above, the normal time to go home to my grandma is 6 hours and I jut taking 5 hour 30 minutes. Yah…it was great journey. But this year…I stay in my hometown city and not go anywhere. ^_^

Do you have MUDIK tradition also in your country?

Happy MUDIK for all of you

Women RIght in Indonesia
Related to country: Indonesia

Translations available in: English (original) | French | Spanish | Italian | German | Portuguese | Swedish | Russian | Dutch | Arabic

Indonesia’s State Philosophy “Pancasila” as the way of life and ideological platform of the Indonesian nation makes no distinction between men and women. Similarly, the 1945 Constitution states that every citizen has equal status, rights, obligations and opportunities both in family, and in society.

“Women as citizens and human resources in development have the same rights, obligations and opportunities as men in all aspects of civic life and in all development activities”.

From The Board Guidelines of The State of Indonesia above, we know that women have the same opportunities like man. Effort for the advancement of roles and status of women has been lasting for more than 20 years; however it has not achieved the expectation.

As the fourth most populated country in the world after China, India and United States of America, Indonesia has how approximately 210 million of people whom more than 50 percent are women. The large number will be a potential recourses and assets that could significantly contribute to national development.

In mid 197 economical and financial crisis hit South East Asian including Indonesia. In 1970, the number of people living in poverty was close to 60 percent and decrease to 11 percent in 1996. However, with the worsened economic crisis in 1998, the people living in poverty amazingly rocketed to 39.4 percent. The economic crisis gave adverse impact to women.

In 1997, Indonesia was at number 59 in GEM (Gender Empowerment Measures) rank, while it was at number 57 for GDI (Gender Development Index) and rank 61 for HDI (Human Development Index). In 1998, Indonesia’s rank has gone down to number 96 for GEM and GDI.

In many aspects, besides progress the women made, they are still left behind compared to their male counterpart. We have a lot of part to be repaired for equality between women and man. The aspects of women are educational, health, economics, politics, judicial bodies, environment, defense and security, and information also communication.

I am not discussing about all aspects above. I will focus in health aspect as my field to being doctor. In health aspect, Maternal Mortality Rate (MMR) has gone down from 549 per 100.000 live births in 1986 to around 390 per 100.000 live births in 1994. The mortality rate of under lives has also declined from 111 deaths per 1000 live births in 1993 to 81 deaths per 1000 live births in 1996. As we know, pregnant women have difficulties time when they live in rural customs or small village. They couldn’t go to doctor for getting the best Ante Natal Care (ANC) during their pregnancy. Traditional massager and indigenous medical practitioner traditional made situation became worse. Uncontrolled bleeding, Infection, and Preeclampsia become the most killer of pregnant women in Indonesia.

We could imagine, if women have no Ante Natal Care, they will have high risk not only for their life but also for their baby. By good ANC, women can control their pregnancy from many diseases. Ministry of Health makes policy approach by Making Pregnancy Safer (MPS).

Health pregnant women are the important key to make a god quality of baby that means good generation for nations.

Start from today and do not wait more women death useless.

“Quality of Generation comes from Quality of Pregnant Women”
